Join us for a virtual author visit with Chef Kwame Onwuachi, a James Beard award-winning chef and author of the bestselling memoir, Notes from a Young Black Chef. Onwuachi opened five restaurants before turning thirty, was a 2015 Top Chef contestant, can be seen judging Food Network's Chopped, and is the youngest Executive Producer at Food and Wine magazine. Onwuachi will discuss his unique path to cooking, the importance of diversity in cooking, and his new cookbook, My America: Recipes from a Young Black Chef. In response to the racial reckoning that swept the country after the police killing of George Floyd in May of 2020, a handful of dedicated residents decided to “think globally, act locally.” The result was a series of essays about race, personal experiences, and societal norms. Meet contributors from Stories of Race in Elmhurst and ask questions about the book, their stories, and how they are working to change Elmhurst.
